Meet the Developer PSP Audioware is great plugin-software developer from Poland. PSP has developed many high-quality audio effects processor plug-in diving for many years and become staples in professional and home studios worldwide. About the Thing PSP FETpressor is a FET feedback type compressor plug-in. It’s designed to provide accurate, almost instant compression with lots of character. Great for vocals, guitars, bass, drums, and whenever a classic 1970s-style FET compressor is needed. PSP FETpressor contains everything you’d expect from a FET compressor: an internal side chain high pass filter to control amount of low frequency pumping, smoothly adjustable compression ratio, ability to select which channel to process, and a link switch. This compressor also contains a dry signal blend for parallel compression. Additionally PSP FETpressor contains makeup amplifier and output transformer emulations to add subtle character even when set to 1:1 ratio. First Impression First time I see the GUI : What? 1176 emulation plugin again in late 2016? I think, PSP is too late to take part in the competition at a time when so many similar items in the market! But, honestly after seeing the prices offered, I changed my mind to give it a try. After all, there is nothing wrong, I really like all of 1176 emulation-plugins in market and FETpressor is different beast agaisnt the others! Sound Quality and Features Having tried and given my experience with similar goods, this thing is really really beast! I don't get the same feeling as when using 1176 (maybe because different knob direction and label), but FETpressor produced a very interesting character, especially in vocal track and snare track. I really liked the smoothness generated by FETpressor on vocal track simultaneously while providing a flavour of 1176 style attack. Not my favorite compressor for bass, I still use Waves RenAxx, LA-2Aish style, and sometime MJUC from Klanghelm for it, maybe because the saturation but when the Sidechain knob on at 80-120hz, this is very helpful. As a bonus, some features you want in the compressor is here, like Sidechain Hi-pass Filter, wet/dry mix knob, and link/unlink stereo compression. I lost all-button-ratio features such as 1176 in general, but as long as it is not directly emulation of 1176, this is not a shortage. My Opinion Lately I never comparing one plugin with other similar, when I like and suited to the needs, then it will be my new weapon. FETpressor is my go-to-compressor for vocal when I mix now. At least, in one week after purchase in my two mixing session, FETpressor has made me satisfied. Here is the video demo from PSP Audioware : |
