About The Plugin
When this plugin was released many people were wondering including myself. "Doesn't waves already have similar tools?" Yeah, S1 Stereo Imager which basically uses Mid-Side technique and basically i am not a fan of Mid-Side technique. BUT after demoing it, I surprised. It is a different tool!
Waves Center is an innovative processor that separates phantom Center content from Side (L/R) content. With Center, you can zero in on the phantom center and bring out or bring down the vocals without affecting everything else (http://www.waves.com/plugins/center)
BUT Waves Center using different algorithm that separate the phantom image with the side. I will try to simplify it with my logic. Waves extract the center which is the frequency with the same 100% phase (which eventually forms the image in the middle) and separate it with another different frequency phase located in L or R. While the Mid on MS Processing still summing a different phase between L or R as long as it does not outphase totally.
Maybe my explanation is wrong, but that's at least my understanding of this tool. I will give examples that will certainly be more explanatory than the description above.
This pluginl is really a game-changer. I've heard of tools that do exactly the same thing as this is the Center Channel Extrator in Adobe Audition. For me, this tool is very helpful to provide space in the Center at the mixing session or even to balance the Phantom Image and Side when mastering without giving weird phasing effects such as Mid-Side Processor. Do not take it wrong. I still use Mid-Side Processor until now, but for some special task I submit to WAVES CENTER.
